It’s my birthday week! My favorite week of the year. I really do love my birthday. Every year people keep telling me I’ll like it less and less the older I get, but that hasn’t happened yet. Every year my mother cooks dinner for my birthday, my siblings and nephews come over and we just hang out, eat my favorite meal and my birthday cake. I am the oldest of 5 and my mom still does this every year for each of us. This Sunday we will be having the same meal I choose year after year, a stuffed turkey roll and cheesy potatoes with a 3 layer coconut cake, and I can hardly wait!

Writing this made me think about traditions. This is one of my favorites with my close-knit family. I like traditions because they give a sense of stability, they provide something you can count on. I haven’t talked to my mom yet about this time-consuming meal she is going to prepare this weekend, but I know she’s planning on it. One of my life goals is to make sure my kids also have this same sense of stability. When they are turning 33, they know that I’ll be there for them to make their favorite birthday meal, or take them out to dinner since I am a horrible cook!
